FIELD GUIDE CHECKED SEP 27, 2026 · PATCH 0.4.5

Heirs and nomination

An heir is the person intended to continue the dynasty after the leader dies. The official dynasty diary describes nominating a child or spouse; nomination should be confirmed in the game, not inferred from a family tree.

Current EA changes that affect this page

Adopting children was added while remarriage after a spouse dies remains unresolved. Adoption provides another family option; the patch does not say that remarriage itself is fixed. Dynasty renown now sums the members of the dynasty, with the current head counted twice. This is a documented aggregation rule, not a prediction of future renown gains. The update lists a fix for the Hard to Kill trait making characters effectively immortal. The patch does not publish a replacement lifespan or death probability. Remarriage after a spouse dies remains an acknowledged issue in 0.4.5. Adoption was added as a workaround, and should not be described as a marriage fix.

Check the nomination explicitly

Open the relevant family screen and inspect who is selected. Being related to the leader is not the same as being the nominated successor. Keep the actual nomination state in your plan so a later family change does not go unnoticed.

Age rules need a version

The March diary describes children becoming selectable at age 15. This is a dated preview rule, not an observed current-build eligibility formula. Our automatic succession check remains gated; record the game’s own nomination and eligibility state in your dynasty notebook.

Plan an alternative

The developer describes disease and other dangers to family members. Keep an alternative candidate in mind and review nomination after a death or major change. Do not assign a survival probability or assume that a nominee will always remain available.
