Inspect the surviving family and the currently nominated heir before taking another relationship action. Do not assume a new courtship candidate fixes the remarriage issue. The candidate-availability fix addresses a different part of the system.

Make the decision

Consider the adoption action described by the patch, then inspect eligibility in the actual game. Review training and nomination for the intended successor separately. A character entering the family does not automatically prove that every inheritance condition is satisfied.
